How to turn your ideal customer into fans

How-To-Turn-Your-Ideal-Customer-Into-Your-Fan

One of the things I love about branding is understanding the people that will be buying the brand.

I like to get to know them, what they care about and what they need in life. If you want your product to be successful, you really need to understand who your ideal customer is and what they like. Check out my post here for other information on your ideal customer. But let’s really dive in to create our ideal customer. In this post, I’ll walk you through creating a profile for your ideal customer. Then, think about that person every time you create something for your brand.

First, ask questions about who our ideal customer is. To get real nerdy on you for a minute, these are called demographics.

• Are they male/female/nonbinary?
• How old are they?
• What level of education?
• What is their occupation?
• Where do they live?
• Are they single, in a relationship, married?
• Do they have children? Pets?
• What is their household income?

Next, let’s start thinking like our ideal customer. Nerd time, these are the psychographics and tell why your customer will buy.

• What do they care about?
• What do they struggle with?
• What are their health goals?
• What do they do in their free time?
• When do they use social media and how do they use it?
• How do they use Pinterest?
• Do they prefer quality or lower price?
• What are they passionate about?
• What are their relationships like?
• How do they make purchasing decisions?
• What do they wish was in the marketplace that is not currently?
• What do they think brands within your industry could do better?
• What do they like about brands within your industry?
• What brands do they love?

You can create this dream client by asking these questions. But to take it a step further, do some research. How you ask?

1. Think about who your best client or customer is currently. Ask them if they would mind doing a quick interview. Give them an incentive if you would like. Then ask them some of the questions above.

2. Poll your audience on social media. You likely already have a some of your target audience following you. Get to know them. By engaging with them now, you’ll start attracting them more fiercely.

3. Create a survey with the questions above and send it out within your network of colleagues, friends, family and fans. Ask them at least these questions:

• What is their highest level of education?
• What is their occupation?
• Where do they live?
• What do they care about?
• What do they struggle with?
• What are their health goals?
• What do they do in their free time?
• When do they use social media and how do they use it?
• How do they use pinterest?
• Do they prefer quality or lower price?
• What are they passionate about?
• What are their relationships like?
• How do they make purchasing decisions?
• What do they wish was in the marketplace that is not currently?
• What do they think brands within your industry could do better?
• What do they like about brands within your industry?
• What brands do they love?

Now that you’ve gathered all of your data, create a profile of your ideal customer. Give them a name. Talk about their likes, dislikes, what they do for fun, where they like to eat. What brands they follow on Instagram. Where they shop and how they shop. How they research and read reviews before making a purchase decision. Do they care about quality over price? What are their needs that are not being met? Are there any holes in the marketplace that your product can fill?

Keep this profile somewhere that you can easily see it all the time. Read over it daily until you feel like you really know your person. Write every social media post for that person. Design your logo for that person. Design your packaging, your menus, you window graphics, you website for that person. Write your about copy, blog posts, and emails for that person. Create giveaways and freebies for that person. Name your flavors for that person. As they say, your vibe attracts your tribe. If you’re speaking to your person all the time, your tribe will flock to you.
